WEEK 2: 3D PRINTING BASICS

This week, we went though the basics of 3D printing slicing software, and the different kinds of 3D printers and slicers. Ending off with a short demonstration on how to use the printers.

3D PRINTING WORKFLOW

STL -> SLICER -> GCODE

The process is usually as above, a STL file will be exported from the 3d software of choice, Imported into a slicing software to add support, infill change layer height and others before it it is sliced and converted to Gcode, a language that can be uploaded on a drive and interpreted by the printer to print the result reuested.

3D PRINTING SLICERS AND PRINTERS

ULTIMAKER

The UltiMaker 5 3D printer is paired with UltiMaker Cura slicer.

PRUSA

The Prusa mk4 3D printer is paired with the Prusa slicer.

FLASHFORGE

The Flashforge is paired with Flashprint slicer.

BAMBU

The Bambu lab is paired with the Bambu slicer.

UPLOADING INTO 3D PRINTER

Place the USB into the port and use the dial to browse the different files and select. We can then click print and the estimated time will display and it will start the process.

REFLECTION

In conclusion, this lesson has taught me the workflow of 3d printing, through showing me the different stages of the process, the slicing softwares and finally the different kinds of 3d printers and how to upload the data.
